EYFS

Our vision for the early years is based on the premise that every child receives the very best provision which both inspires and engages them, engendering accelerated progress ensuring they have a solid base of key skills and are ‘school ready’ at the end of their Reception year.

To do this we have embedded a systematic approach which ensures the learning opportunities of all are enhanced. Our planning processes are robust and link with the knowledge we ascertain from our assessment practices.

Working alongside our enthusiasm is a dedication to develop and deepen our knowledge and systems. Working collaboratively is part of our highly successful strategy and has been critically important in the development of this planning and assessment methodology and practice.

Interwoven in our practice is the belief that high expectations for both the children and ourselves inspires and enables goals to be reached and exceeded.  We are enthusiastic and driven. Our practice reflects our depth of knowledge.

We prioritise continual professional development which, led by outstanding teachers and inspired by current research, shares and enhances best practice.

Teacher Learning Communities

Once a term teachers come together to take part in Teacher Learning Communities

Leadership and Management Development: EYFS Coordinators Forum

EYFS Coordinators from all schools in the federation will meet and share best practice. We will evaluate current provision, attainment and progress and measure impact. From this process we will establish key priorities to support the embedding of strategies, improvement and drive for increased attainment and high quality teaching and provision. Throughout the year the sessions include creating, innovating and sharing of new information, tools and research. Education leaders from within our Primary Advantage Federation, the local Learning Authority and beyond will visit and share ideas, and support leadership development. Targets and foci for each meeting are established and shared prior to the session. The joint leadership group feed into these sessions when appropriate. The review session on 3rd July 2018  will focus on the evaluation of information (including data) from 2017/2018. With this evaluation in mind we will collectively plan training opportunities for 2018/19.

PA Maths in EYFS

We have a broad range of EYFS PA Maths workshops to choose from this year. For details of course dates, times, locations and to book please see the links at the bottom of the page.

EYFS Workshop: How to Use and Imbed the Programme

Cost: £145 (half price for PA Maths member schools)

This course introduces the PA Maths Programme and explores the principles which underpin its effective use in the Early Years. It is an active session which practically explores the key concepts which underpin the program and best practise in EYFS Maths. We also explore the progression of learning in both ‘Number’ and ‘Shape, Space and Measures’, how new ideas link to known skills and how to identify next steps for children and ensure that gaps and misconceptions are challenged and resolved.

EYFS workshop: The importance of counting

Cost: £145 (half price for PA Maths member schools)

This course explores counting in the Early Years. We explore the progression of skills children develop and use when counting. Through fun, practical activities we look at how to teach, assess and then use that information to scaffold the next developmental steps. Using the programme we link counting to early calculation development.

EYFS workshop: Making Calculation Fun

Cost: £145 (half price for PA Maths member schools)

In this session you will be exploring how children develop the foundations of calculation. This is a practical session that looks at the progression of learning through the different calculation strands. We will link counting skills to calculation; considering both subtraction and addition. We will consider the mental imagery involved and build a bank of ideas to support engagement in calculation. We will consider the impact on attainment once skills and strategies have been developed and embedded.

EYFS workshop: Maths in Stories and Shape Fun

Cost: £145 (half price for PA Maths member schools)

This is a practical session that looks at the progression of learning through the different calculation strands. We will explore how to effectively use stories to develop maths skills in the EYFS classroom. This session is engaging and informative and draws on key children's literature as a vehicle for maths learning. We will also look at shapes and link what elements and information children need to learn in the EYFS. The language involved in comparing and describing shapes is also a focus in our practical session. In light of these two aspects of practice, we will consider the impact on attainment once skills and strategies have been developed and embedded.

EYFS workshop: Maths Outdoors

Cost: £145 (half price for PA Maths member schools)

In this session we will be exploring maths in the great outdoors. We will explore key concepts and how the provision within the outdoor areas of an EYFS setting can support mathematical development. Mathematics outdoors in the early years is fun and exciting; children can explore, actively learn and critically think about different contexts. We also explore the use of the natural environment and how we can apply key number concept and mathematical language.

EYFS workshop: Small Focus Groups for Support Staff

Cost: £145 (half price for PA Maths members)

This is a practical session that looks at the different mathematic strands. We will examine how adults can effectively scaffold learning in small groups.
This is a fun practical session which explores key elements of engagement of children and explicit modelling of skills by adults. We explore the progression of learning in both ‘Number’ and ‘Shape, Space and Measures’. This course also introduces the PA Maths Programme and explores the principles which underpin its effective use in the Early Years. Key concepts are explored and, through active participation, are practised.
